BASED CATALOGS AVAILABLE FOR LIGHTING SHOWROOMS!
Ten years ago, I reported that the web was a good idea
in principle but it was, in a word, S - L - O - W. Not any more.
Computers have become faster and cheaper, and dial-up is quickly
being replaced by DSL, satellite dishes, and cable modems. The result
is an explosion of information at our fingertips. As consumers become
more expert in mining this information, dramatic changes are occurring
on the showroom floor.
Recently, CLARK COMMUNICATIONS GROUP began working with Alan Galper
and Felix Gorfin of LIGHTS AMERICA, developers of a decorative lighting
database that contains over 30,000 items. This remarkable database
allows showroom owners to set pricing, choose manufacturers, and
disguise SKU numbers. Through a web-based access, salespeople and
customers alike can perform powerful product searches by category,
style, and finish. They can then print out their selections and/or
bring them into the showroom. Selections can also be emailed or
faxed to the showroom. Showroom salespeople report better-educated
customers and greater ease in helping customers identify and order
products not on display.
The database web sites features full color photographs from over
forty-five of the most popular lighting manufacturers. Best of all,
the database is kept current by Lights America. Merchandise is added
and discontinued automatically with each manufacturer update.
